Zyon Ayni was born in 1973 in Israel. Ayni has both Israeli and Dutch citizenships. He’s the founder and CEO of the Dutch pharmaceutical company ‘Code Pharma’, which is developing its flagship drug ‘Gammora’.

Gammora, a synthetic peptide developed at the Hebrew University in Israel, triggers apoptosis in HIV-infected cells by disrupting viral DNA integration, leaving healthy cells unharmed. Unlike antiretrovirals, which manage HIV, Gammora eliminates infected cells and restores healthy CD4 cells, offering potential for an AIDS cure.

Between Israel and the Netherlands

His life on the line between the Netherlands and Israel began at the age of 6 when Zyon Ayni followed his family for the first time to the Netherlands and returned to it frequently until the age of 13. He then decided to leave his studies in Israel and move to the Netherlands, where he took part in the family businesses.

Ayni discovered his aptitude for business and entrepreneurship at an early age, when he wandered as a child between different businesses with a paper and a pen and managed calculations of income, expenses, and worthwhile purchases. By the age of 32, he founded and managed the third-largest restaurant and leisure business empire in Amsterdam, as part of which he employed dozens of people, and provided a source of livelihood for hundreds of families.

The Moment that Changed Zyon Ayni’s Life

In 2010, a routine visit to a dentist in Israel changed his life. In one of the magazines he read while waiting, he came across an article about scientists from Israel, who found a special mechanism that leads to the destruction of cells infected with the HIV virus. The article also stated that the researchers are looking for an investor who will develop the mechanism that will turn the discovery into an actual medicine.

In a previous interview, Zyon Ayni explained how learning about this discovery ignited the spark of entrepreneurship in him once again. “I made a lot of money at a young age, and I got to a place where I look for more meaning in my business life. I saw an opportunity that could change the world, and that I could lead. It intrigued me”, Ayni Said.

Although many told him that this was an impossible fantasy, and even though every bank and underwriter he met refused to take part in the development of the drug in the early stages – Zyon Ayni insisted on making the investment and financed everything from his personal capital. In 2014, Ayni founded “Code Pharma” and the project was launched.

Other Activities

As an entrepreneur in Africa’s mining sector, Zyon Ayni focuses on developing key mineral resources, including gold and coltan.

In parallel with his business activities over the years, Ayni conducts extensive philanthropic activities in Africa. As part of this, he works across the continent to help the less able through financing the expenses of orphaned children, including tuition and housing.

Throughout his life, alongside an extensive business career, Zyon Ayni has nurtured and maintained his love of martial arts Muay Thai (Thai boxing) as a professional fighter. Even now, Zyon rises to the battlefield under the Dutch flag, in order to honor his coaches Lucien Carbin, who has coached 56 world champions, and Avner Shalom, the world runner-up and winner of the Asia championship in Thai boxing. In one of his interviews, Ayni said that one of the leading phrases in his life is “In battle, without fear, without hesitation, keep moving forward” a phrase that characterizes his worldview and business path.
